The CNAE (National Classification of Economic Activity) is a system used in Spain to classify the economic policies of companies. The objective of this classification is to establish a hierarchical set of economic activities that can be used to favor the implementation of national statistics that can be differentiated according to established activities and to classify statistical units and entities according to the economic activity carried out.
The CNAE is divided into different groups (from A to U), where the same activities are grouped together. In total, there are 21 sectors, ranging from agriculture to organizational activities and extraterritorial bodies.
Agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing : includes activities related to agricultural and livestock production. Some of the activities that are also included are the cultivation of cereals, vegetables and fruits, the raising of livestock and fishing.
Food industry: Food and beverage production is counted here, but does not include the distribution of these goods.
Textile and clothing industry : This includes activities related to the production of textiles and clothing. Some of the activities of this section are the manufacture of fabrics, the manufacture of garments and the manufacture of leather and footwear products.
Chemical industry: This section includes the manufacture of chemical and petrochemical products, such as production.
Construction : It groups all activities related to the construction of buildings and civil engineering works such as the construction of houses, the construction of roads and bridges, and the installation of heating and ventilation systems.
Wholesale and retail trade: This is where activities related to the sale of wholesale and retail products are grouped together. Some of the activities included in this section are the sale of food, clothing and footwear, and appliances.
Transport and storage: the activities included in this group are road, rail, sea and air transport, and the storage of products in warehouses and warehouses.
Financial and insurance activities : includes activities related to insurance, investment management and financial consulting.
All the production units that compose it are included in each group or letter.
For example, in group A, which includes agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishing, the following data are found: “no. 0112 rice crop”, “no. 0146 pig farming” and “no. 0147 poultry farming”. In this way, your CNAE Code will be “0112″ if you are dedicated to rice cultivation.
Each of the subsectors is also divided into groups of more specific economic activities, which are identified by two additional digits. For example, within the 011X subsector, cereal cultivation, groups of activities such as wheat cultivation (0111) or rice cultivation (0112) are included.
All organizations are required to have a code that allows their data to be tracked for surveys, statistical reports and public analysis. This code must be owned by companies, financial institutions, governments and any other economic agent operating in the European market.
Companies must include this number or code in their articles of association and social agreements.
